We can fill 3D space with a union of disjoint circles. In this artwork I have organized the circles into spherical shells and slope, and a series of vertical rings. The spherical shells are shown, with each nuclear family of circles avoiding the two intersection points with the vertical red ring. (Inspired by Andrzej Szulkin, Amer Math Monthly Nov 1983 pp 640-41.)
Hi, Dan Bach here, lifelong math nut. I'm a retired college math teacher, and current interactive book author / 3D math artist. In my spare moments I watch a lot of NBA basketball and go on long distance runs, but not at the same time. Students convinced me my calculus pictures could be called art. My work gets viewers to look, think, notice, and wonder. And hopefully say, "That's cool! That's math?"
